SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER - FUNCTIONAL LIFE SKILLS (Elementary)
(beginning the 2026/2027 school year)
The Lisbon Community School is seeking dedicated and compassionate Elementary Special Education Teacher to support students with Autism, Other Health Impairments (OHI), and/or other disabilities who present with academic, language, and social challenges. This position focuses on delivering a functional life skills curriculum designed to promote independence, communication, and meaningful participation in school and community environments.
*Certification 282 K-8 or 286 K-8 certification required*
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with students’ unique learning profiles and functional needs
- Provide direct instruction in functional academics, communication, social skills and daily living skills
- Utilize evidence-based practices, including structured teaching, visual supports, and behavior intervention strategies
- Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Collaborate with related service providers (e.g. speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, behavior specialists)
- Foster structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and strategies for skill generalization
- Support students in developing independence across school routines, including transitions, self-care, and community-based instruction when appropriate
- Supervise and support Ed Techs in the special education and regular education setting
